Buried in the massive $516 billion omnibus spending bill that passed the House of Representatives last night is at least $576,000 to manage weeds. And, it was Congressional leaders and Appropriators who put the weed earmarks in the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) earmarked $37,000 for “Weed Management” in Nevada (Joint Explanatory Statement, Agriculture, page 3 of the Charts).

Majority Leader Reid joined House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) who earmarked $264,000 for weeds (Agriculture, page 13).

Another member of House leadership and the House Subcommittee Chairman for Agriculture Appropriations, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) earmarked $527,000 for invasive aquatic weeds in Fort Lauderdale, FL (Agriculture, page 8).

And, House Subcommittee Chairman for Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations, Rep. John Olver (D-MA) earmarked $48,000 for “Weed It Now on the Berkshire Taconic Landscape” in Massachusetts (Agriculture, page 33).
